When updating your employee list, you may receive an error indicating that a manager cannot be removed during the import.
Why does this error occur?
During an Excel import, an empty cell does not replace an existing value in an employee profile. Instead, the system keeps the value that is already saved.
For example, if the Manager column is left blank in the Excel file, the employee will keep their current manager after the import.
This safeguard is designed to prevent employees from unintentionally losing their manager during an import.
If you intentionally want to deactivate a manager's profile, you must first remove that manager from the profile of every employee who reports to them, including inactive employees.
Once these changes have been made, the Excel file can be imported successfully.
Solution:
If the manager is being replaced:
Update the affected employees in your Excel file
Assign each employee to their new manager
Deactivate the manager's profile in Amelio to reassign any inactive employees who are still reporting to them
Import the updated file
If there is no replacement manager:
Manually remove the manager from the employee profiles directly in Amelio before importing
Once this has been done, import the Excel file to complete the update
The easiest way to update multiple employee profiles is by using the Table View in the Colleagues section. Learn how to access this table in this article: Modify Employees with the Table View in the Colleagues Tab.
Once the employee profiles have been updated, you can import your employee list normally.
