What is the difference between a survey audience and a targeted audience by question?
Updated over a week ago

Amélio offers the option to segment different types of audiences: the survey audience and the targeted audience by question. You may be wondering what the difference is and how to choose one over the other? Here are our answers!

Choosing a 'survey audience'

The survey audience refers to which members of the organization will be sent the survey in its entirety.

To set the audience of your survey, see the 'Survey Audience' section of the following article: Survey Settings. ✏️

When to use this feature?

It is recommended to create separate surveys for groups of employees when the reality of the employees is differs significantly from one group to the next and the wording of the majority of the questions must be different.

Example : If you have administrative employees and production employees, for whom the work issues are completely different, you could create a separate survey for each of these 2 groups.

This will then allow you to produce a survey that truly reflects the reality of the employees and their concerns. The audience of the survey will then be different for the 2 surveys.

Target audience by question

A target audience refers to the audience targeted by a few questions in a survey sent to everyone.

It is possible to create a more precise segmentation by asking questions to specific groups of employees.

🔎 To learn more about creating a target audience, check out our article: Defining the Target Audience for Certain Questions.

When to use it?

If all of the questions apply to the company, but you would like to ask a few questions to specific employees or a certain group of people, we recommend using this feature.

These questions will allow you to measure certain issues specific to a department, by incorporating targeted questions as part of the same survey that's .

Example: You could send a survey to the entire marketing department, but include specific questions in that survey intended only for designers in that same department.

In conclusion, in order to select which of the audience types you should select, the question you need to ask yourself is "Will most of our survey questions apply to the entire organization?"
