How to create an ad hoc survey in 5 minutes

This article includes step-by-step instructions on how to create the survey, add questions, and configure settings.

Updated over a week ago

The goal of an ad hoc survey is to understand the needs and perceptions of employees or a specific group of employees on a particular subject or topic. This type of survey allows you to take the pulse in a specific context and is highly relevant in certain targeted situations.

Some examples include ensuring a healthy change management process following the implementation of a new IT system, gathering feedback from a group of employees following a training that modifies work methods, and understanding the dimensions of organizational culture and employer branding to guide recruitment initiatives.

The first thing to consider when surveying employees on specific topics is to determine, based on your needs, whether it is preferable to create an ad hoc survey or add questions to the continuous improvement survey.

The steps presented in this article can also be used to create all types of surveys, whether you're adding your own questions or importing a complete questionnaire template that you've modified.

Are you ready to create an ad hoc survey?

After reviewing the above article and determining that an ad hoc survey is the best option for your needs, here are the steps to follow to create it.

If you prefer to import a continuous improvement question template, you will need to specify a recurring frequency and number of questions per submission (e.g. every 4 weeks, 20 questions).

Creating a survey from scratch.

From the various sections of the Surveys tab, click on Create a new survey in the top right corner, then on Create your own survey.

Defining the type and title of the survey.

To begin the setup, in the Settings tab, you can indicate the minimum required information to continue the preparation (title, number of questions per survey, frequency).

For an ad hoc survey, it is desirable that all employees receive the entire set of questions. Here are the recommended parameters for this purpose:

Frequency: On demand (This allows you to schedule the survey at specific times as needed)

Once these basic parameters are defined, click on Save at the bottom of the page to save your survey project.

Creating the survey questionnaire.

Once the ad hoc survey is created, you can add your questions and configure them as desired.

To do this, two options are possible:

Create your questions directly from the platform, as presented in the following article: Edit the survey questionnaire.

Import your questions using a template: Import questions. This option may take you less time if you have a large number of questions to add.

Finish configuring the settings.

When your questionnaire is ready, you can finalize the survey setup and schedule the sending using the instructions in the following article: Survey settings.

Important! Remember to close the survey when it is completed: Survey in progress

- >Close the survey.
